Job summary

LCMC Health in New Orleans offers a role as an Ophthalmic Assistant where you will perform patient assessments, diagnostics, and assist physicians in eye care. You’ll educate patients, document interactions, and help manage equipment and inventory.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience in Optometry/Ophthalmology.
• Preferred: Ophthalmic Assistant Program accreditation or technical school in the field.

• Prepare and maintain examination equipment and rooms.
• Contribute to the team to ensure quality patient care.
• Manage medication supply, ordering, and inventory.

GENERAL DUTIES

• Performs patient assessments and technical skills to assess the ophthalmic status of each patient, including emergency procedures and medication administration as appropriate.
• Performs diagnostics, takes history, tests vision, performs specialized ophthalmic testing, dispenses contact lenses and assists physicians.
• Educates patients and documents patient interactions.
• Collects patient medical history, eye measurements and determines intraocular pressure.
• Supports ophthalmologists in the treatment of eye diseases and disorders.
• Prepares and maintains examination equipment and rooms.
• Contributes to the team as necessary to ensure quality patient care.
• Manages medication supply, ordering and inventory.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Required: High School Diploma/GED or equivalent OR 2 years of work experience in Optometry/Ophthalmology.
• Preferred: Accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program Successful completion of an Ophthalmic Assistant Program.
