Job summary

Your Place In Vermont seeks an Ophthalmic Technician to support Optometrists. You will prepare patients for exams, take medical histories, perform basic vision testing, administer eye medications, and maintain exam rooms and instruments.

Responsibilities include completing ophthalmic histories, conducting sub-specialty tests, using Athena EHR, and coordinating with staff to ensure a safe, sterile clinical environment. Prior ophthalmic experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support Certification.
• Proficiency in computers.
• Knowledge of customer service principles and practices.
• One year of ophthalmic technician experience (preferred).
• Experience with electronic health records (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
• Tests refraction, visual fields, color testing, and contact lens evaluation.
• Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history in Athena EHR.
• Prepares patients for exams by dilating pupils and taking vitals.
• Maintains safe, sterile exam rooms and equipment.
• Sets up minor procedures and manages instrument stock.
• Familiar with standard ophthalmic care concepts and procedures.

Description

The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see the Optometrist (preliminary exam, medical history & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting during minor procedures.

Essential Functions:

• Acts as clinical assistant to Optometrist.
• Performs complete ophthalmic history and preliminary exams, sub-specialty tests (refraction, visual field test, color testing and contact lens evaluation etc.)
• Interviews patient to obtain and record medical history within the Athena electronic health record.
• Prepares patients for ophthalmology examination by dilating pupils, identifying changes in visual acuity, obtaining extraocular pressure, and obtaining blood pressure and communicates results to Optometrist.
• Maintains a safe, secure, and health work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures along with complying with legal regulations.
• Set up and prep for minor procedures, maintain stock of materials for exam rooms and procedures, follows industry and clinic standards for sterilization of instruments.
• Is familiar with standard concepts, practices, equipment and procedures within the field
