Job summary

Endeavor Health is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview to support ophthalmologists in diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. This full-time role involves a Monday–Friday schedule with some travel between locations and requires flexible hours.

You will perform eye examinations, measure visual acuity and eye pressures, assist with procedures such as OCT and tonometry, maintain records, and educate patients about pre- and post-operative care.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Vocational Degree or High School diploma required.
• Assist ophthalmologists during exams and procedures.
• Maintain accurate patient records per hospital policy.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary eye examinations and tests.
• Obtain detailed medical history.
• Administer tests: tonometry, keratometry, OCT, pachymetry.
• Assist during eye examinations, surgeries, laser treatments.
• Educate patients on eye care and post-operative instructions.

Hourly Pay Range: $24.86 - $37.29 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Full Time/Part Time: Full Time (40 hours per week)
Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM

A Brief Overview: As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting ophthalmologists and other eye care professionals in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various eye conditions. You will work in a state-of-the-art facility and collaborate closely with our eye care team to ensure the best possible patient experience.

Responsibilities

• Performing preliminary eye examinations and assessments, including measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure, pupil reactions, and visual field testing.
• Obtaining detailed patient medical history, including eye-related complaints, medications, and relevant health information.
• Administering specialized ophthalmic tests and procedures such as tonometry, keratometry, optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and pachymetry.
• Assisting ophthalmologists during eye examinations, surgeries, and laser treatments, ensuring patients are comfortable and well-informed about the procedure.
• Educating patients on eye care procedures, pre-operative and post-operative instructions, and the proper use and care of contact lenses or eyeglasses.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting assessments, test results, and treatment plans in compliance with hospital policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Performing routine maintenance on ophthalmic equipment and ensuring they are in proper working order.
• Assisting in the sterilization and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment for eye surgeries.
• Collaborating effectively with ophthalmologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive eye care services.
