The Ophthalmic Technician II will be responsible for conducting ophthalmic technical support activities that assist the ophthalmologists, residents, and optometrists in delivering care to patients in the outpatient Eye Clinic.

Essential Functions:
  • Performs ocular examinations, including history taking, visual acuity, ocular motility assessment, intraocular pressure measurement, manual lensometry, and pupillary assessment. (60%)

  • Performs visual field testing, OCT, pachymetry, topography, A-scan biometry, and ocular photography. (10%)

  • Performs advanced refractometry and records findings accurately for provider review. (5%)

  • Provides patient education on contact lens care, glasses, and medications. Instructs patients on insertion and removal of scleral and RGP lenses.

  • Accurately troubleshoots patients presenting for a glasses recheck. (5%)

  • Demonstrates proficiency in fluorescein angiography, pediatric eye examinations, and cataract evaluations. (5%)

  • Assists with in-basket management and administrative tasks. (5%)

  • Responsible for stocking exam rooms and maintaining exam room equipment. (5%)

Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:
  • 1-3 years ophthalmic technician experience, multispecialty ophthalmic practice setting preferred Required

Licenses:
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Epic EHR Documentation

  • Intermediate knowledge of ophthalmic assisting skills, including optics, refractometry, and ocular alignment
