Job summary

Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB) is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician II to join our Plymouth, MA team. You will perform essential diagnostic testing and assist physicians while ensuring accurate patient data and a smooth clinical workflow.

The role requires COA/COT/COMT/OSC/CRA or OCT-C certifications with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Schedule is Monday–Friday, full time, with no nights or weekends. Competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC), Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), or OCT-C required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a COA, COT, COMT, OSC, CRA or OCT-C.

Responsibilities

• Assist physician in gathering patient data and maintaining a conducive clinical environment.
• Perform visual acuity testing, visual field testing, lensometry, auto refractometry, refractometry, pupil assessment, EOM, tonometry, and other ophthalmic tests.
• Maintain patient medical records and ensure efficient workflow.
• Provide patient care within a clinical setting and support diagnostic testing.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the department supervisor, the Ophthalmic Technician II plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive ophthalmic care. Responsible for assisting the physician in gathering patient data and maintaining a conducive clinical environment, the technician performs a variety of essential tasks. These include conducting visual acuity testing, visual field testing, lensometry, auto refractometry, refractometry, pupil assessment, extraocular motility, gross external examination, applanation tonometry, tonopen,eye drop instillation, diagnostic testing and participating in patient care within a clinical setting. Additionally, the technician maintains patient medical records, ensuring efficient and organized workflow.

Schedule: Monday- Friday Full Time No Nights or Weekends

Job Requirements

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations:

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA),Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT),Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC), Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), or Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT-C) required.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a COA, COT, COMT, OSC, CRA or OCT-C.
• Proficiency in all aspects of ophthalmic patient care,including advanced procedures.
• Demonstrated proficiency in refractometry,applanation tonometry,and other ophthalmic tests.
• Ability to troubleshoot most eye issues and work with various electronic health record systems.
• Some experience with diagnostic testing.

Knowledge and Skills:

• In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy,physiology,and pathology.
• Strong technical skills in operating ophthalmic equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex concepts, with strong math and science skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient computer and data entry skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
