Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston, Inc. seeks an Ophthalmic Technician II to support physicians with patient data gathering, performing visual acuity tests, lensometry, tonometry, and related diagnostic procedures in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Under supervision, you will maintain accurate medical records, operate ophthalmic instruments, and collaborate with the team to ensure compassionate, efficient patient care across multiple locations. A COA/COT/COMT or OCT-C certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Proficiency with ophthalmic tests and equipment preferred.
• Experience with electronic health records is advantageous.

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the department supervisor, the Ophthalmic Technician II plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive ophthalmic care. Responsible for assisting the physician in gathering patient data and maintaining a conducive clinical environment, the technician performs a variety of essential tasks. These include conducting visual acuity testing, visual field testing, lensometry, auto refractometry, refractometry, pupil assessment, extraocular motility, gross external examination, applanation tonometry, tonopen, eye drop instillation, diagnostic testing and participating in patient care within a clinical setting. Additionally, the technician maintains patient medical records, ensuring efficient and organized workflow.

Schedule

Monday- Friday Full Time No Nights or Weekends

Job Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC), Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA), or Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT-C) required.

Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a COA, COT, COMT, OSC, CRA or OCT-C.
• Proficiency in all aspects of ophthalmic patient care, including advanced procedures.
• Demonstrated proficiency in refractometry, applanation tonometry, and other ophthalmic tests.
• Ability to troubleshoot most eye issues and work with various electronic health record systems.
• Some experience with diagnostic testing.

Knowledge and Skills

• In-depth knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
• Strong technical skills in operating ophthalmic equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to understand complex concepts, with strong math and science skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient computer and data entry skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
