Job summary

61st Street Service Corporation seeks an Ophthalmic Technician I to support ColumbiaDoctors’ high-volume ophthalmology practice. The role focuses on patient care from basic eye health to surgical support, including exam preparation, testing, documentation, and instrument calibration.

The technician will manage patient histories, triage calls, and ensure proper PPE and room readiness while collaborating with physicians and staff in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 6 months ophthalmology experience or equivalent.
  • Understanding of medical terminology or experience with scribing.
  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-examination of patients for all specialties across sites and assist physicians.
  • Greet patients with excellent service; verify screening and PPE on arrival.
  • Record patient histories, visual acuity, refractions, and ocular examinations.
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing as directed.
  • Document and reconcile drug logs; maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Sterilize and calibrate instruments; manage call triage and patient communications.
  • Maintain accurate EHR documentation and assist team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician I provides excellent patient care from basic eye health to surgical interventions. The technicians assist the physicians in the examination and treatment of patients. Our technicians are responsible for managing patients based on the appointment types, triage phone calls, performing testing and imaging as needed, ensuring exam rooms are prepped, and other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Pre-examination of patients for all specialties across all sites. Assist physicians with in-office procedures.
  • Greet patients and visitors using excellent customer service. Ensures the patient has completed the screening and has appropriate personal protective equipment upon arrival.
  • Responsible for patient histories, visual acuity assessment and manual refractions, anterior segment examination, applanation tonometry, pupil evaluation, confrontation field, and Amsler grid.
  • Perform basic diagnostic testing.
  • Accurate documentation and reconciliation of drug logs to ensure proper inventory.
  • Responsible for the sterilization and calibration of instruments.
  • Call triage and call processing of patient matters.
  • Maintain accurate and legible documentation.
  • Communicate with patients and practice team members through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • High School or GED equivalent required.
  • A minimum of 6 months of ophthalmology experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology or scribing.
  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience preferred.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $26.44 - $29.81

Note: Our salary offers will fall within these ranges based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to experience, skill set, training and education.
