Job Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician I provides excellent patient care, from basic eye health to surgical interventions. The technicians assist physicians in examining and treating patients. Responsibilities include managing patients based on appointment types, triaging phone calls, performing testing and imaging as needed, preparing exam rooms, and other duties as assigned.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Pre-examination of patients across all specialties and sites. Assist physicians with in-office procedures such as lasers, intra-vitreal injections, and minor procedures.
  • Greet patients and visitors, ensuring screening and appropriate equipment are in place. Handle triage calls for post-operative concerns, prescription refills, and medical questions.
  • Take patient histories, assess visual acuity, perform manual refractions, anterior segment examinations, applanation tonometry, pupil evaluations, confrontation fields, and Amsler grid testing.
  • Perform diagnostic tests such as visual fields, specular microscopy, IOL master/Immersion A-scans, Atlas/Pentacam, pneumatonometry, and OCT.
  • Document and reconcile drug logs to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Sterilize and calibrate instruments.
  • Maintain accurate and legible patient records.
  • Communicate with patients and team members via the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 6 months of ophthalmology experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of medical terminology or scribing experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, high energy, interpersonal skills, and ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including Electronic Health Records, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Email.
  • Preferred multi-specialty experience in a high-volume setting.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • Prior EMR experience preferred.
  • Experience with ophthalmic imaging modalities such as visual field testing, OCT, fundus photography, corneal topography, and related technical skills is preferred.

Hourly Rate Ranges: $24.04 - $29.64

Note: Salary offers will fall within these ranges based on experience, skills, training, and education.
