Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician I
Department: Ophthalmology
Location: Eye Care- Pittsford and Riedman Health Center
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8a-5p

SUMMARY:

As an Ophthalmology Technician, your attention to detail and knowledge in eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medicines contribute to the overall success of quality patient care. Opt Techs are responsible for daily patient care and flow. This position requires good understanding of ophthalmic practice and patient care, knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and usage needed, an ability to assess common safety hazards and take precautions to establish a safe work environment required. This position also requires the ability to communicate with patients, co-workers and supervisors.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Examinations & Testing. Uses proper precaution procedures and sterile techniques to administer all examinations and tests to patients.

  • Documentation. Keeps detailed documentation of patient histories and examinations.

  • Procedures. Assists doctor with patient care and in minor surgeries.

  • Promptly and professionally assist the doctor in patient care and manages patient flow.

  • Obtains a thorough medical, ocular, social history and chief complaint from the patient.

  • Performs imaging using diagnostic equipment: Fundus photography, external photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Optomap Ultra-wide field.

  • Performs diagnostic testing using the following diagnostic equipment: Humphrey Visual Field, Corneal Topography, Lenstar, IOL Master, Specular Microscopy, Pachymetry, and Auto-refractor.

  • Administers eye drops to patients in accordance with provider instructions, utilizing proper eye drop techniques and sterility.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • None, willing to train.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Preferred experience in an ambulatory medical setting.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Friendly, courteous and patient service oriented.

  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant within 24 months of hire preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.

$20.00 - $28.00

The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
