Job description

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Ophthalmic Technician (FGP) in Manhattan.

In this role, the successful candidate tests and measures eye function to assist the Ophthalmologist in diagnosing and treating eye disorders and diseases. Tests patient acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception. Examines eye using slit lamp for abnormalities of cornea, anterior and posterior chambers. Applies drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes. Measures intraocular pressure (glaucoma test). Tests patient field of vision, including central and peripheral vision, for defects, and charts test results. Measures axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment. Performs other tests and measurements as requested by physician.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Handle all patient correspondence, including disability forms, patient education, surgical consent forms.
  • Conduct slit lamp examinations.
  • Complete medical history, lensometry, auto refracting, PAM testing, glare testing.
  • Perform all aspects of visual acuity testing and visual field testing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • More than five years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in a retina practice (preferred).
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from a Joint Commission for Allied Health Personnel approved institutional course preferred or working towards obtaining certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than five years of experience in a retina practice.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Effective communication with all levels of the organization.

Salary Transparency

Salary range: $54,013.05 – $63,000.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation.
