Job summary

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent and completion of JCAHPO approved program for ophthalmic assistance/technicians.
  • At least one year of experience as an ophthalmic assistant or tech.
  • Certified as ophthalmic technician or ophthalmic assistant with renewal every 3 years.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, providers and healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients' past medical history with knowledge of anatomy and physiology; obtain accurate history and assess how systemic disease affects vision.
  • Maintain patient flow through clear communication with providers, staff and patient/families.
  • Record visual acuity and perform lensometry accurately.
  • Maintain environment and supplies of the practice center.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through continued COT certification with JCAHPO requirements and department/state/national opportunities.
