Job summary

Woolfson Eye Institute in Georgia seeks an experienced ophthalmic assistant to support physicians with patient examinations and treatments, manage histories, perform diagnostic testing, assist in minor office procedures, and document exam findings.

The role requires at least 2 years in an ophthalmic practice, proficiency with EMR, strong communication and organizational skills, and flexibility to travel to Sandy Springs 4–6 days per month.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years in an ophthalmic practice.
• Experience in cornea and cataract clinics preferred.
• Minimum of two years performing ophthalmic procedures and diagnostic testing.
• Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
• Reliability and dependability.
• Strong organizational skills and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate patient care and support the physician during examinations.
• Perform preliminary work-up: history, chief complaint, and basic tests.
• Conduct manual refractions and tonometry.
• Order/perform diagnostic testing: Biometry, Topography, OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photos.
• Take dictation and document exam findings while physician examines the patient.
• Administer eye drops under physician supervision and assist in minor procedures.

JOB SUMMARY

Assist Physician with patient examination and treatment, responsible for patient histories, routine diagnostic procedures, as well as some clerical duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Facilitate patient care
• Preliminary work-up: history, chief complaint, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil reactions, scope of vision, color vision and muscle movement.
• Manual refractions.
• Tonometry (Applanation, Tonopen).
• Diagnostic testing: Biometry, Topography, OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photos.
• Take dictation and document exam findings while physician is examining patient.
• Administer drops under physician supervision.
• Write out necessary prescriptions.
• Take and explain tests, procedures, treatments, and diagnoses to patients.
• Maintain and stock all exam rooms.
• Clean and maintain all instruments.
• Assist physician in minor office surgery.
• Return and answer patient phone calls as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years' experience in an ophthalmic practice. Experience in cornea and cataract clinics preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years' experience performing ophthalmic procedures and diagnostic testing.
• Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
