POSITION SUMMARY To perform advanced technical ophthalmic procedures, measurements and tests to provide physician data and assist in patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
•Conduct and record various tests:
- central visual acuity
- central and peripheral visual field
- ocular tonometry and tonography
- color vision
- accommodation
- keratometry
- retinoscopy
- refraction
- cover-uncover and alternate cover ocular balance
- light and accommodation pupillary reaction vergence
- duction and rotation
- visual fusion and stereoptic
- phoria and tropia, diplopia field
-amblyoscope and troposcope
-optokinetic tests
• Perform and record lensometry tests of spectacle and contact lens interpupillary distance and spectacle lens decentration measurements, bifocal and trifocal segment height and location measurements, spectacle adjustments and repair evaluations.
• External and ocular fundus photography.
• Perform routine operational maintenance of ocular equipment and surgical instruments.
• Participate in surgical procedures as a surgical assistant to the Surgeon Ophthalmologist, assist as an instrument tray assistant and as an operating room circulating assistant as directed.
• Perform ocular fluorescein staining procedures, external irrigation and aspectic skin preparation procedures, topical anesthetic and medication instillations and dressing applications.
• Participate in clinical laboratory and research laboratory procedures and in the on-the-job training or ancillary personnel as directed by the supervising Ophthalmologist.
• Completes all required compliance training.
