Job summary

Azul Vision in California is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to support patient workups, education and follow-up. You will communicate professionally with patients, doctors and staff, perform pre-tests such as Humphrey Visual Field, OCT, A-scan and corneal topography, and prepare patients for procedures.

This is an in-office role with patient education and travel up to 50% to multiple clinic locations in the LA/OC area.

Qualifications

• Must be able to type 45 wpm.
• Strong HIPAA knowledge and compliance.
• Prior ophthalmology experience preferred.
• Spanish/English bilingual preferred.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Perform complete workups including medical and surgical history and diagnostic testing.
• Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate staff.
• Assist in minor procedures.
• Prepare patients for laser procedures and surgeries.
• In-office and telephonic patient education and ensure proper documentation in chart.
• Maintain back-office inventory and supplies.
• Conduct Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scan, corneal topography, Amsler grid, color testing and related diagnostics.

Job description

The Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for the work up, education and follow up of current and potential patients.Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform theessential functions.Ability to interact and communicate in a professional demeanor with patients, doctors, and staff.Accurately communicate pertinent information to patients.Complete all necessary workups including obtaining medical and surgical history, and the completion of all diagnostic testing.Prioritize and maintain efficient patient/doctor workflow.Accurate pre-testing according to office policy and procedures.Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate office staff.Assist in minor procedures.Prepare patients for additional laser procedures (blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, SLT).Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians.In office and telephonic patient education and ensure its appropriately documented in patient’s chart.Follow HIPPA guidelines to maintain strict patient confidentiality.Cross train in back and front office procedures.Help maintain back-office inventory/supplies.Accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, Corneal Topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and additional diagnostic testing.This is an in-office position; remote work is not available.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:High School diploma or its equivalent is required.2+ years’ experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferredAbility to type 45 wpm.Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.Experience in Medical scribing preferred.Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.Skills/Abilities:Ability to type 45 wpm.Exceptional attention to detail.Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional, fast-passed, medical clinic environment.
