Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform patient workups including medical/surgical history and diagnostic testing.
• Prioritize efficient workflow between patient and doctor.
• Triage calls and forward to appropriate staff.
• Assist in minor procedures and prepare patients for laser procedures.
• Prepare paperwork for surgeries ordered by physicians.
• Provide in-office and telephonic patient education and document appropriately.
• Maintain back-office inventory and supplies.
• Conduct Humphrey Visual Field, OCT, A-scan, corneal topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and other diagnostics.

Job description

The Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for the work up, education and follow up of current and potential patients.Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform theessential functions.Ability to interact and communicate in a professional demeanor with patients, doctors, and staff.Accurately communicate pertinent information to patients.Complete all necessary workups including obtaining medical and surgical history, and the completion of all diagnostic testing.Prioritize and maintain efficient patient/doctor workflow.Accurate pre-testing according to office policy and procedures.Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate office staff.Assist in minor procedures.Prepare patients for additional laser procedures (blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, SLT).Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians.In office and telephonic patient education and ensure its appropriately documented in patient’s chart.Follow HIPPA guidelines to maintain strict patient confidentiality.Cross train in back and front office procedures.Help maintain back-office inventory/supplies.Accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, Corneal Topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and additional diagnostic testing.This is an in-office position; remote work is not available.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:High School diploma or its equivalent is required.2+ years’ experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferredAbility to type 45 wpm.Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.Experience in Medical scribing preferred.Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.Skills/Abilities:Ability to type 45 wpm.Exceptional attention to detail.Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional, fast-passed, medical clinic environment. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 hours aday shifts with occasional overtime as required.TravelThis position may require up to 50% travel. Travel to multiple clinic locations, which are locatedthroughout the Los Angeles and Orange County, will be required throughout the week, and at times onshort notice.
