• High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA).
• 4–6 years as an ophthalmic assistant.

Responsibilities

• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Review charts for completeness and accuracy; perform required tests.
• Act as scribe and enter data into EMR during exams.
• Perform lensometry, automated refractometry, tonometry and related tests.
• Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications.
• Assist with in-office procedures and maintain informed consent.
• Support training for other ophthalmic assistants and patient education.

Job description

This onsite role is located at Outlook Eyecare, Monroe Twp., NJ location, which is part of Prism Vision Group. There will be occasional travel to other locations based upon business needs.

Compensation Range: $18.00 - $35.27/hr (Dependent on Experience)

The Ophthalmic Technician conducts measurements and tests that provides the Physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for required documentation in compliance with the policies and provide excellent patient services.

Key Responsibilities

• Take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity.
• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.
• Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records.
• Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp examination including applanation tonometry, anterior chamber angle assessment and gross external exam, ocular muscle motility and balance testing, assess pupils and confrontation visual fields.
• Administers diagnostic tests – OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry
• Performs manifest refraction
• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications
• Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.
• Assists in training other ophthalmic assistants.
• Assists with patient education.
• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.
• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
• Maintains a positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.

Qualifications

Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline highly preferred

Certificates and Licenses: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Experience: 4-6 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience

• Within 4 weeks of hire must be facile with Athena PMS and practice based EMR

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• An office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
