Job summary

Prism Vision Group in Freehold, NJ is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to work on site at Millenium Eye Care. The role supports physicians with diagnostic testing, patient history, and documentation in accordance with policies. Occasional travel to other locations may be required.

Responsibilities include history taking, acuity recording, scribe duties, lensometry, OCT, visual fields, and assisting with procedures while ensuring patient safety and education.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED; Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant.
• 2–4 years ophthalmic assistant experience.
• Proficiency with ophthalmic testing equipment and EMR.

Responsibilities

• Take ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
• Review charts for completeness; perform tests as scheduled.
• Act as scribe and enter data into EMR during exams.
• Perform lensometry, refractometry, slit lamp exams, tonometry, and pre/post-procedure support.
• Administer diagnostic tests and assist with patient education and exam room upkeep.

Overview

This onsite, non-exempt role is located at Millenium Eye Care, Freehold Office, which is part of Prism Vision Group. There will be occasional travel to other locations based upon business needs.

Compensation Range: $18.00 - $35.27/hr (Dependent on Experience)

The Ophthalmic Technician conduct measurements and tests that provides the Physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for required documentation in compliance with the policies and provide excellent patient services.

Responsibilities

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity.


• Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.


• Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records.


• Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp examination including applanation tonometry, anterior chamber angle assessment and gross external exam, ocular muscle motility and balance testing, assess pupils and confrontation visual fields.


• Administers diagnostic tests – OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometry


• Performs manifest refraction


• Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications


• Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.


• Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.


• Assists with patient education.


• Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.


• Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.


• Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.

Qualifications

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education:High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline highly preferred.

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant

Experience:2-4 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experience

• Within 4 weeks of hire must be facile with Athena PMS and practice based EMR

WORK ENVIRONMENT

An office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogens.
