Job summary

Paycom is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to perform patient workups, educate patients, and manage follow-up care in a fast-paced ophthalmology clinic.

The role includes assisting with laser procedures, preparing surgeries, triaging calls, and maintaining thorough documentation in the patient chart. Travel may be required between LA and Orange County locations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years ophthalmology technician experience preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
• COA/COT certification preferred.
• Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.
• Medical scribing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient workups, education and follow-up.
• Prepare patients for laser procedures and surgeries.
• Triage calls and coordinate with office staff.
• Assist in minor procedures and document in chart.
• Maintain back-office and front-office procedures.
• Perform diagnostic tests (Humphrey Visual Field, OCT, A-scan, corneal topography).

Job description

The Ophthalmic Technician is primarily responsible for the work up, education and follow up of current and potential patients.Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform theessential functions.Ability to interact and communicate in a professional demeanor with patients, doctors, and staff.Accurately communicate pertinent information to patients.Complete all necessary workups including obtaining medical and surgical history, and the completion of all diagnostic testing.Prioritize and maintain efficient patient/doctor workflow.Accurate pre-testing according to office policy and procedures.Triage phone calls and forward to appropriate office staff.Assist in minor procedures.Prepare patients for additional laser procedures (blepharoplasty, injections, YAG, SLT).Prepare necessary paperwork for surgeries ordered by the physicians.In office and telephonic patient education and ensure its appropriately documented in patient’s chart.Follow HIPPA guidelines to maintain strict patient confidentiality.Cross train in back and front office procedures.Help maintain back-office inventory/supplies.Accurately perform Humphrey Visual Field, OCT scans, A-scans, Corneal Topography, Amsler grid, color testing, and additional diagnostic testing.This is an in-office position; remote work is not available.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:High School diploma or its equivalent is required.2+ years’ experience as Ophthalmology Technician preferredAbility to type 45 wpm.Advanced understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations.Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA)/Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred.Experience with an Electronic Health Record (EHR) preferred.Experience in Medical scribing preferred.Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.Skills/Abilities:Ability to type 45 wpm.Exceptional attention to detail.Proactive and independent with the ability to take initiative.Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a professional, fast-passed, medical clinic environment.
