Retina Associates, P.A. is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to prepare patients for physician visits and perform eye-related clinical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient date of birth and update physician information.
  • Record chief complaint and history of present illness.
  • Record medications, allergies, and surgical history.
  • Check visual acuity and intraocular pressure (IOP) with tonopen.
  • Order OCTs, fundus photos, and fluorescein angiograms.
  • Dilate patients as directed by the physician.

Job description:Position SummaryThe Ophthalmic Technician at Retina Associates, P.A. is a non-exempt employee who serves on the front line of patient care by preparing patients to be seen by the physician. This position requires the use of clinical knowledge to perform eye-related clinical tasks, including obtaining patient medical histories, instructing patients about medications, performing vision and diagnostic testing, and assisting with the training of other ophthalmic personnel as needed.ScheduleThe Ophthalmic Technician's schedule (while working at BEC) is typically 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM or 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM. During periods of high patient volume, technicians may be asked to remain later to assist with patient screening. If assigned as the "late" technician, the expected schedule is 8:30 AM until the last patient leaves. When traveling to satellite clinics, work hours may vary due to work-ins, schedule changes, or cancellations.EMR Patient Work-Up ResponsibilitiesVerify patient date of birthAdd and update physician information, including PCP, OD, and MDRecord chief complaint and history of present illness (HPI)Record, verify, and update medications, allergies, and surgical historyCheck visual acuityRecord intraocular pressure (IOP) using a tonopenAssess extraocular muscle function (EOM) and confrontational visual fieldsCheck for APD'sOrder injections and obtain patient consentsOrder OCTs, fundus photos, and fluorescein angiogramsDilate patients as directed by the physicianAdditional DutiesThe following duties may be assigned as needed and are subject to change:Stock assigned exam and work-up roomsMix dilating dropsSterilize equipment using the autoclaveUnpack and organize supplies in designated areasPerform other duties as assignedAdditional DutiesThe following duties may be assigned as needed and are subject to change:Stock assigned exam and work-up roomsMix dilating dropsSterilize equipment using the autoclaveUnpack and organize supplies in designated areasPerform other duties as assignedQualifications & RequirementsTravel to three satellite clinics is requiredDemonstrate a positive team-player attitudeAbility to assist patients transferring from mobility devices (wheelchairs, scooters, etc.) to an exam chairAbility to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the dayAbility to manage a fast-paced and busy workloadSafety-Sensitive PositionBased on the current job duties and assigned responsibilities, this position is considered a Safety-Sensitive Position as defined by Act 593 of 2017.Work Location: In person
