Job summary

Center For Sight Las Vegas is seeking a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant to support physicians with data collection and patient history. You will document measurements, assist with testing, and maintain patient flow through the clinic while ensuring confidentiality.

The role requires at least two years of ophthalmic assistant experience, strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook), and an ability to follow clinic protocols. Bilingual skills are a plus but not required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Valid proof of certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
  • Strong computer competency with Excel, Word and Outlook and adaptability to new software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive workplace attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Interacts with all patients professionally and respectfully.
  • Obtains patient history including chief complaint, history of present illness, past history, family history, allergies, and medications.
  • Documents measurements, testing results and patient encounters accurately.
  • Follows protocol for patient workflow and ensures adherence with supervisor guidance.
  • Escorts patients within the facility and informs them of wait times.
  • Assists in moving patients to check-out or optical dispensary as needed.
  • Maintains stock and cleanliness of exam lanes.

Education

High school diploma or GED
Two years’ Ophthalmic Assistant experience
Certification as Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred

Job description

Job Summary: This individual is responsible for performing an extensive number of data collection functions, as delegated by the physician, to allow for proper, professional diagnosis of patients’ conditions.

Primary Duties: (*=essential Functions)

  • Interacts with all patients using the level of respect and professionalism required by Center for Sight.*
  • Obtains patient history, to include: chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications. *
  • Accurately documents measurements, testing results and the patient encounter as well as relevant patient information.*
Documentation to include:

-Manual and/or Auto Lensometry-Stereopsis

-Pupillary Function-Angle Assessment

-Confrontational Visual Fields-Dilation

  • Clinical Flow and Efficacy*
  • Follows protocol on which patient should be taken next from the waiting room to be worked up. Any deviations from protocol must be preapproved.*
  • Escorts patients to and from waiting areas using the patient’s surname.*
  • Keeps patients informed of any potential wait times.*
  • Following appointment, escorts patients from the clinical area to the check-out station or optical dispensary when necessary.*
  • Maintains stock levels and cleanliness of exam lanes.*
  • Seeks guidance from Supervisors and Providers as necessary, never performing beyond clinical capabilities.*
Position Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED, some college preferred.
  • Two years’ experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant.
  • Valid proof of certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred, not required.
  • Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Requires strong computer competency including intermediate knowledge and experience with Excel, Word and Outlook (calendar/email) and the ability to easily learn and adapt to new software applications.
  • Requires exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to exhibit workplace civility and promote a positive work environment.
