Job summary

EyeSouth Partners in Cranberry Township, PA is seeking an ophthalmic technician to assist ophthalmologists and optometrists, gather ocular data, and perform tests ordered for exams. The role requires accurate chart review, EMR data entry, recording visual acuity, and administration of ophthalmic medications, with strong communication in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Nextech/ICP experience and ophthalmic technician background are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience with Nextech/ICP systems preferred.
  • Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient chart for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform tests ordered by doctor and exam type.
  • Act as medical scribe and enter data into EMR.
  • Record ocular/systemic history and visual acuity.
  • Administer ophthalmic or oral medications as directed by physician.
  • Assist with in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Responsibilities
Clinical
  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Administrative
  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
