Job summary

Jobtailor in Columbus, OH seeks an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician to provide compassionate patient care, perform diagnostic testing, and handle ophthalmic imaging with EMR entry. The role includes assisting physicians, preparing patients for visits and ensuring equipment readiness.

Candidates should have a HS Diploma and ophthalmic training or equivalent experience, with OSUP COA preferred; travel may be required to support staffing at other facilities.

Qualifications

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ophthalmic Assistant criteria and 1 year of experience as Ophthalmic Technician/Assistant or 2 years in an Optometry Clinic, or OSUP Ophthalmic Personnel Training Program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality, accurate and compassionate care to a diverse patient population.
  • Take patient histories, prepare patients for physician appointments and document medical history, symptoms and medications.
  • Perform diagnostic testing such as visual acuity, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry and tonometry.
  • Obtain ophthalmic imaging (OCT, Topography, Pachymetry, Specular Microscopy) and enter data into EMR.
  • Assist Physicians and Ophthalmic Technicians; transport patients within the facility; stock and disinfect exam rooms.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Provides high quality, accurate and compassionate care to a diverse patient population
  • Displays high proficiency in taking patient histories and is highly organized to fully prepare the patient for the physician appointment
  • Interacts professionally and compassionately with patients daily
  • Performs diagnostic Visual Field Testing: Humphrey, Octopus and Goldman Fields
  • Clinical Competence of Ophthalmic Imaging: OCT, HRT, Pachymetry, Topography and IOL Master
  • Enters information into Electronic Medical Record
  • Transports patients within the facility to additional departments
  • Assists with rooming patients
  • Stocks and disinfects examination rooms
  • Provides assistance to Physicians and Ophthalmic Technicians in the Ophthalmology clinic
  • Initiates patient’s exam and prepares patients for physician appointments
  • Documents medical history, symptoms, complaints, and medications
  • Performs related patient service when necessary and as requested
  • Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities
  • Performs diagnostic testing such as visual acuity eye exams, lensometry, keratometry, refractometry, and tonometry
  • Obtains Ophthalmic Imaging: OCT, Topography, Pachymetry, Specular Microscopy, Manual A-Scans and IOL Master
  • Instructs patients on proper eyecare
  • Adheres to regulations regarding drug samples and drug sample logs
  • Ensures medication and supply expiration dates are current
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned
Requirements
  • minimum of a HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Ophthalmic Assistant criteria AND 1 year prior experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Ophthalmic Assistant OR 2 years prior experience as a technician in an Optometry Clinic OR Successful completion of OSUP’s Ophthalmic Personnel Training Program COA Preferred
