Job summary

Fite Eye Center in Clinton Charter Township, MI is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to assist physicians with data collection and testing.

Ideal candidates will have ophthalmic/optometric experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting. Responsibilities include chart review, testing, EMR data entry, medication administration, and patient education.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ophthalmic/optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient charts for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor based on exam type and history.
  • Act as a medical scribe and enter data into EMR during examination.
  • Record ocular and systemic history and visual acuity.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications as directed.
  • Assist with simple in-office procedures and obtain informed consent.
  • Educate patients and maintain exam room cleanliness.
  • Comply with procedures and state/federal regulations.
  • Report inventory needs and participate in daily team meetings.
  • Communicate errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The Ophthalmic Technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.

Responsibilities

Clinical

  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
  • Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
  • Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records
  • Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
  • Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Ability to assist with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.

Administrative

  • Report inventory and supply needs to leadership timely and as needed for supply ordering
  • Participate in daily team huddles and regularly scheduled meetings as planned and required.
  • Understand and accept responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer
  • Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
  • Maintain positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or the equivalent years related experience preferred
  • Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred
  • Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
