Job summary

Cone Health is seeking a Retina Ophthalmic Technician who, under the physician's direction, prepares patients for exams and assists during visits. The role applies advanced optics and refraction techniques to assess vision and support retina photography when needed.

Responsibilities include taking ophthalmic history, measuring IOP, performing pupillary exams, and assisting with other ophthalmic tests. Requires a high school diploma; preferred experience in an ophthalmic setting.

Qualifications

• Preferred ophthalmic setting experience.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patient to room and take proper ophthalmic history.
• Including but not limited to chief complaint, present illness, and current medications.
• Obtains confrontation visual fields for each eye of the patient.
• Measures and records the intraocular pressure for each eye based on the physician’s orders.
• Performs pupillary examination and documents patient visit and examination details.
• Supports performing other ophthalmic tests at the direction of the ophthalmologist.
• Helps physician by placing dilating eye medications in each eye based on the physician’s orders.
• Works with physician to consult with Ophthalmic technician on complicated or difficult patient conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Retina Ophthalmic Technician, at the direction of the physician, prepares the patient for the physician examination and treatment. This role is responsible for assisting the physician during and before the patient's appointment in order to ensure a successful patient visit. Uses increased knowledge of optics and refraction to measure vision by advanced methods relevant to the patients' needs and abilities. Ophthalmic retina photography is often performed by the Ophthalmic Technician.
