Job summary

Cone Health Medical Group is seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to assist the physician during exams and prepare patients for visits. The role uses optics and refraction to measure vision and may include retina photography performed by the technician.

The technician escorts patients, obtains ophthalmic history, records medications, and supports testing as directed by the ophthalmologist. They may place dilating medications and collaborate on complex cases to ensure a successful visit.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in an ophthalmic setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort patient to room and obtain ophthalmic history.
• Record chief complaint, present illness, and medications.
• Obtain confrontation visual fields for each eye.
• Measure and record intraocular pressure per physician orders.
• Perform pupillary examination and document visit details.
• Assist with other ophthalmic tests and dilating medications as ordered.
• Collaborate with ophthalmologist on complex cases.

Job description

The Retina Ophthalmic Technician, at the direction of the physician, prepares the patient for the physician examination and treatment. This role is responsible for assisting the physician during and before the patient's appointment in order to ensure a successful patient visit. Uses increased knowledge of optics and refraction to measure vision by advanced methods relevant to the patients' needs and abilities. Ophthalmic retina photography is often performed by the Ophthalmic Technician.

Essential Job Function:

• Escorts patient to room and take proper ophthalmic history.
• Including but not limited to chief complaint, present illness, and current medications.
• Obtains confrontation visual fields for each eye of the patient.
• Measures and records the intraocular pressure for each eye based on the physician's orders.
• Performs pupillary examination and documents patient visit and examination details.
• Supports performing other ophthalmic tests at the direction of the ophthalmologist.
• Helps physician by placing dilating eye medications in each eye based on the physician's orders.
• Works with physician to consult with Ophthalmic technician on complicated or difficult patient conditions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Preferred: Relevant experience while employed in an ophthalmic setting.
