Job summary

Clemson Eye, an affiliate of Eye Health America, is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the surgeon and nurse in delivering professional care to patients undergoing procedures within our ophthalmology center. Overtime may be required and procedures will follow established standards.

Key duties include prepping the operating room, maintaining supplies, setting up sterile fields, and passing instruments to the surgeon while upholding aseptic technique.

Qualifications

• Surgical Technologist certification preferred.
• At least one year of surgical experience or completion of a formal surgical technician program required.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing the operating room for the planned procedure.
• Assists with maintaining an adequate inventory of supplies.
• Sets up sterile operating field with instruments and supplies necessary for that procedure; arranges instruments, sutures, drapes, and supplies per AORN standards.
• Observes strict aseptic technique throughout the entire procedure and report break-in technique to the circulating nurse and the surgeon.
• Passes instruments, supplies, and sutures to the surgeon and assistants as needed and in such a manner so that their attention is not diverted from the operative field.
• Sees that all instruments, needles, sponges, and other supplies are removed from the operative field.
