Job summary

Spectrum Vision Partners / OCLI Vision seeks an Ophthalmic Scribe – Level 1 to support physicians in Rockville Centre, NY. This full-time daytime role documents patient interactions, prepares charts, and tracks orders in the EMR for efficient visits and high-quality eye care.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, strong typing, ophthalmic terminology knowledge, and prior medical experience. Completion of Level 1 competency within 90 days is required; NextGen EMR experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with EMR/EHR applications preferred; NextGen is preferred but not required.
• Proficient typing and computer skills with the ability to document accurately in real time.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic and general medical terminology, anatomy, abbreviations, and documentation standards preferred.
• Previous customer service and/or medical experience preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
• Completion of the Ophthalmic Scribe Level 1 competency checklist within 90 days of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Real-Time Clinical Documentation: Accurately document patient-provider interactions, including examination findings, diagnoses, prescriptions, treatment plans, and patient instructions.
• Chart & Exam Preparation: Prepare patient charts, the EMR, and exam rooms according to physician requirements and preferences.
• Orders & Follow-Up: Track physician testing and medication orders and maintain organized, complete documentation.
• Documentation Quality: Use active listening, critical thinking, and attention to detail to identify inconsistencies and seek clarification when needed.
• Patient Support: Help patients understand testing and visit steps and communicate patient needs to the clinical team.
• Teamwork & Patient Flow: Collaborate with physicians, technicians, and clinical staff to support efficient visits and quality care.
