Qualifications

Who We Are
Paul Phillips Eye & Surgery Center is a physician-owned multi-specialty ophthalmic practice that offers comprehensive eyecare services in surgical and medical retina, cataract and refractive surgery, uveitis, glaucoma, pediatrics, oculoplastics, contact lens fitting and supply, and full service optical. The main location is Flemington, NJ with two satellite offices in Bridgewater, NJ and Clinton, NJ.

Position Summary
The Ophthalmic Scribe acts as an assistant to the Physicians by listening, observing, and accurately documenting real-time interactions between the Physicians and patients. Communicates with patients to obtain patient medical history information. During patient visits, the Scribe documents notes in the electronic health records (EHR) system. The Scribe completes all administrative tasks efficiently, such as requesting or printing lab testing results or imaging, obtaining records, completing or sending correspondence, and ensuring availability of medications for patient visits.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Take notes during patient visits and accurately document them in the electronic health records (EHR) system, so they are ready to be submitted to the billing office.
  2. Provide hands-on involvement for patient work ups and testing as needed.
  3. Work with a supervising Physician to complete and submit medical records.
  4. Communicate with patients and supervising physicians professionally.
  5. Complete all administrative tasks efficiently, such as generating lab and imaging orders and following up on lab testing results; sending or receiving medical records from outside physicians; completing paperwork for medication approvals, school forms, DMV forms, etc.; and responding to patient inquiries.
  6. Ensures that all medications (e.g., VEGF, Kenalog, etc.) are present for the physician’s patient encounters by understanding their schedule and preparing in advance.
  7. Anticipate physician needs during patient encounters by active listening and awareness during visit.
  8. Must be able and willing to travel to and work from 3 office locations – Flemington, Bridgewater, and Clinton, NJ.
  9. Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required
COA or COT certification desirable
3-5 years’ experience, specifically in ophthalmology

Work Environment
This job operates in an active work environment consistent with patient care in an outpatient setting.

Position Type and Expected Work Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Monday through Friday; must be available as needed.
