Job summary

MidWest Eye Center in Cincinnati, OH is hiring an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant to support a high-volume ophthalmology practice. We offer paid training with no prior experience required and opportunities to advance toward COA, COT, OSC, and COMT certifications.

You will perform patient history, visual acuity testing, automated refraction, and assist with eye drops, EMR data entry, and daily clinic tasks, while traveling between locations as needed.

Qualifications

  • Ability to make independent decisions within scope.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

  • Support a high-volume ophthalmic practice with quality care.
  • Assist in diagnostic tests and patient education.
  • Participate in training and pursue COA/COT/OSC/COMT certifications.
  • Travel to various offices as needed and maintain patient confidentiality.

We are currently hiring healthcare professionals who are passionate about customer service to join our Team as an Ophthalmic Medical Assistant. The Ophthalmic Medical Assistant will support a high-volume Ophthalmic practice that focuses on providing quality and compassionate care to patients in need of complete eye care services. The Ophthalmic Technician/Medical Assistant role is more than a job, it is truly a career. In time you may become a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT), Ophthalmic Scribe Certified (OSC) and Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). We encourage and support these certifications and provide assistance with the certification process. Additional monetary incentives are awarded upon attainment. This position requires customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a degree of independent decision-making.

Ophthalmic skills (upon completion of training) include but are not limited to
  • Obtaining and documenting patient history
  • Determining visual acuity
  • Performing automated refraction
  • Administering eye drops, ointments, and irrigating solutions to the eye as ordered by the physician
  • Performing office duties and clinical tasks - entering data into EMR
  • Providing patient services
  • Maintaining equipment and instruments
  • Dependable transportation required to travel to other offices as required
  • Must be flexible with traveling to various locations as needed
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • The ability to seek instruction in areas where he/she is not knowledgeable
  • The ability to recognize inconsistencies
Education
