The University of Miami UHealth – Bascom Palmer Eye Institute - at SoLé Mia has an exciting opportunity for a full time Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technician 2.

The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technologist 2 (H) proficiently understands the theory, principles, and practice of eye care. The Ophthalmic Diagnostic Technologist 2 (H) completes and maintains proper documentation/completion in the EMR system and performs appropriate clinical and diagnostic testing techniques in compliance with department standards.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Complies with regulations and maintains patient confidentiality.
  2. Prepares exam rooms for daily clinical activities.
  3. Examines eye for abnormalities. Measures intraocular pressure of eyes.
  4. Measures axial length of eye using ultrasound equipment.
  5. Tests patient’s far acuity, near acuity, peripheral vision, depth perception, and color perception.
  6. Documents patients’ histories and gives instructions to patients concerning eye care.
  7. Conducts a range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests, such as visual field tests, OCT scans, B-scans, fundus photography, and corneal topography.
  8. Accurately documents test results in patients’ charts.
  9. Prepares patients for each test, explaining the procedure in a clear and concise manner.
  10. Adheres to all safety protocols and infection control procedures.
  11. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. Basic Life Support (BLS)
  3. Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Technologist (COMT)
  4. Certified Retinal Angiographer (CRA) or Certified Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT-C) or Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist (ROUB) or Certified Diagnostic Ophthalmic Sonographer (CDOS)
  5. Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  1. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  2. Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  3. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  4. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  5. General knowledge of office procedures and operations.
  6. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports and correspondence.
