Job summary

UT Health San Antonio seeks an ophthalmic assistant to support ophthalmologists and optometrists in routine and surgical settings. You will gather data, prepare patients, and administer treatments with emphasis on accurate documentation and patient safety.

No prior experience is required, and successful candidates will obtain COA certification within 1 year. This on-site role is based at UT Health San Antonio in San Antonio, TX.

Qualifications

• Understanding of eye anatomy, diseases and ocular medications.
• Ability to read clinical notes and document results accurately.
• Follows sterile techniques and patient consent rules.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examinations and assist during exams to ensure smooth clinic flow.
• Test and record basic ocular function and assist in surgical procedures.
• Sterilize instruments and maintain supplies in exam rooms.
• Instruct patients/families on home care and document medical history.
• Administer eye and oral medications as directed by ophthalmologists.
• Maintain proper handling of equipment and report issues promptly.
