Job summary

American Vision Partners (AVP) is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to prepare patients for exams, collect medical history, perform preliminary tests, and support doctors with high-quality care and patient experience.

Responsibilities include greeting patients, maintaining clinic flow, performing tests (visual acuity, auto-refraction, keratometry, tonometry), documenting in the EHR, and educating patients on conditions and procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of ophthalmology experience preferred.
• COA or COT credentials are a plus.
• Detail oriented; reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and maintain a welcoming clinic flow.
• Obtain patient histories via intake assessments and document in the EHR.
• Perform visual acuity, auto-refraction, lensometry, keratometry and tonometry tests.
• Check pupils, EOMs, and dilation procedures.
• Run diagnostic tests such as A-scan, OCTs and Visual Fields.
• Educate patients on ophthalmic conditions and consent for procedures.
• Maintain exam rooms and ensure sterilization.
