The University of Michigan Health System's Kellogg Eye Center in Ann Arbor invites applicants to join a 3-month Ophthalmic Assistant Novice program, designed to train motivated individuals toward becoming Ophthalmic Technicians. The role is full-time and serves as a stepping-stone within a collaborative ophthalmology team.

Upon successful completion of training, you may be considered for regular full-time employment at the Ophthalmic Technician - Associate level.

Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Strong command of the English language and dedicated work ethic.
• Associates and/or bachelor’s degree; healthcare education preferred.
• Previous customer service experience in a healthcare setting is desired.

Responsibilities

• Perform lensometry, refractometry, baseline external exams, visual field tests, automated keratometry, tonometry, and ancillary testing.
• Prepare and update patient records; manage requisitions for testing and review charts/schedules.
• Calibrate, clean and maintain ophthalmic equipment and instruments.
• Triage patient calls and assist patients into/out of exam rooms; participate in clinical procedures.
• Perform contact lens insertion/removal and process contact orders/returns.
