Job summary

Unicare Community Health Center-Ontario is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support to the Optometrist.

You will welcome patients, obtain histories, perform introductory eye tests, and prep patients for examinations while maintaining ophthalmic equipment and supplies. The role requires strong communication and multitasking in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• COA or COT, Optician Certification OR 2+ years ophthalmology/optometry technician experience OR 2-3+ years retail optical dispensing experience.
• Previous experience in a medical office, retail, or hospitality setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Verify vision insurance benefits and explain coverage to patients.
• Process eyewear and contact lens orders and track status.
• Manage appointment calendar and patient check-in/check-out.
• Conduct preliminary diagnostic tests such as visual acuity and tonometry.
• Gather and document patient histories in EHR.
• Instruct wearers on lens care and fit glasses.
