Under general supervision, provides assistance to Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and nursing staff with direct and indirect patient care, ensuring smooth work and patient flow within the department.



Primary Responsibilities:



  • Assists in scheduling of appointments, tests, treatments and/or surgeries. Is familiar with insurance benefits

  • Escorts patients from reception area to exam room and prepares them for exam and/or treatment

  • Accurately and efficiently takes patient histories (ocular, medical and family) and vital signs (as applicable)

  • Performs a variety of ocular testing and visual assessment skills

  • Instillation of ocular medications under direct supervision of a physician

  • Patient instruction concerning medication, testing, surgical procedures and documentation thereof in the medical record

  • Application of ocular dressings as applicable

  • Assists physicians/providers in preparing for minor surgical procedures in office

  • Records glass and/or contact lens prescriptions

  • Assists in coordination of patient care services with other clinic departments

  • Assists in the development, revision and/or updating of department policy and procedure/standards of care or practice

  • Orders and maintains department practice inventory

Required Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Eligible for Washington State Medical Assistant (MA-R) registration

  • Ability to obtain BLS certification within 60 days of hire



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Clinical experience in a physician's practice



The hourly range for this role is $16.88 to $33.22 per hour based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
