Job summary

Metro Water Recovery in Denver, CO is seeking an Operator Technician Trainee to grow into a Plant Operator I. You will work under supervision, assist with wastewater plant operations, and pursue a Wastewater Class D Operator license as soon as possible after hire.

The role includes a scheduled night shift (6pm-6am or 2pm-2am) based on needs, with training to meet performance goals and safety standards within a community-focused utility environment in Brighton, CO.

Qualifications

  • Must have High school diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license.
  • Trainee position with path to Wastewater Class D Operator license.
  • Night shift responsibility (6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m.–2:00 a.m.) after training.
  • Must follow Standard Operating Procedures and safety practices.

Responsibilities

Great opportunity to grow into a Plant Operator at the Beautiful Brighton, Co location!

  • This position is a trainee opportunity. The selected candidate will be expected to work toward obtaining a Wastewater Class D Operator license as soon as reasonably possible after hire. Upon completion of the required training period, the employee will be required to transition to the designated night shift of either 6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m., based on operational needs.**

Assists with the operation of a wastewater plant. Performs skilled and unskilled work and assists with tasks required to operate and control the performance of liquid and solids stream unit process equipment. Works under the direction of an Operations Supervisor or Plant Operator – Lead. May be assigned work by a licensed Plant Operator.

Examples of Duties
  • Participation in Metro’s Wastewater Treatment Operations Staff Training Program including enrollment and completion of assigned curriculum.
  • Assists with monitoring of wastewater unit processes and support systems equipment.
  • Assists with control adjustments of unit process variables to meet target performance.
  • Conducts field measurements, observations and analyses for review by licensed Plant Operator.
  • Assists with executing Standard Operating Procedures for support systems equipment and unit processes.
  • Assists with inspections, adjustments to equipment, and with placing equipment in and out of service.
  • Assists with adjustments to unit processes equipment and facility systems as necessary to meet performance goals.
  • Follow established operational reporting lines when reporting incidents, requesting resources, addressing interdepartmental concerns, initiating non-routine tasks or changes to standard operating procedures.
  • Assists with routine preventative maintenance and housekeeping activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license is required.
