Organization Overview

Lilly is currently constructing an advanced manufacturing facility for the production of API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) molecules located in Lebanon, IN. This is Lilly’s largest investment in manufacturing capacity and will provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities. The successful candidate will join the start‑up team for this greenfield site and help build processes and facilities to enable GMP‑compliant operations.

Position Brand Description

The Tank Farm, Truck, and Rail Operator is directly responsible for ensuring that the supply of solvents and waste management is maintained without interruption to support facility needs. Responsibilities include tank farm operations, air emission systems, and truck/rail car loading and unloading. The role executes operations per SOPs and instructions to safely support the manufacturing of high‑quality medicine.

Responsibilities

• Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements at all times.
• Support execution of the production plan for the site.
• Operate tank farm activities, including tanker and railcar loading/unloading.
• Carry out daily monitoring, testing, and cleaning duties for equipment and systems.
• Apply Health, Safety & Environmental regulations and GMP procedures.
• Understand other area processes, operational hazards, and respond appropriately.
• Monitor equipment use and performance to anticipate reliability problems.
• Collaborate with Maintenance and Technical Support to address supply upsets or failures.
• Report spills, deviations, or incidents during processing.
• Communicate status and issues to other shifts during handover.
• Participate in daily shift huddles and meetings.
• Engage in safety audits, procedure coordination, housekeeping, and improvement projects.
• Complete required training and qualification on all specified unit operations.
• Identify concerns for informal or formal discussion (crew meetings, safety representative).
• Follow cGMP practices, safe work habits, plant dress code, hygiene, and housekeeping requirements.

Basic Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship).
• Completion of a Post‑Offer Exam or Work Simulation if applicable.
• Effective written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
• Basic computer skills (desktop software).
• Ability to bend, reach, stretch, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.
• Ability to stand for long periods.

Additional Preferences

• Experience in facility or area start‑up environments.
• Experience in utility operations or directly supporting pharmaceutical manufacturing.
• Solid understanding of FDA guidelines and cGMP requirements.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
• Emergency Response Experience
  • Industrial, military, volunteer, or career firefighter roles.
  • Indiana State or IFSAC Certification – Fire 1, Hazmat Technician.

Additional Information

• Ability to work 12‑hour rotating shifts (days and nights).
• Flexibility to work during startup periods.
• Availability for overtime as required.
• Potential short‑term assignments (6‑12 months in Indianapolis, IN or 1‑3 months domestically/internationally) and short travel for equipment testing.

Compensation & Benefits

Actual compensation will depend on education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated hourly wage for this position is $21.27 – $41.25.
