Job Overview

The Take Up 3 is an entry‑level role where the individual will operate a take‑up in line with the extruder. Example machines that would fall under this job title include the 6 inch PVC Take‑Up (BWP), (Heflin), and (SCUPP).

General Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
• Stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
• Assist with the operation of the machine you are assigned to
• Follow instructions
• Lifting up to 45 lbs.

Primary Job Tasks

• Might require a Southwire forklift license
• Perform take‑up and pay‑off operations as required
• Layer wind cable to customer‑specified ship‑out length and reel
• Utilize production order to meet all customer requirements
• Operate per the applicable procedures
• Change out reels of cable while maintaining line function
• Utilize tagging system to label reels
• Make minor adjustments and repairs to machines
• Operate take‑up and assist line operator with running the machine
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Cross Training

• Cross‑train equipment within your identified workgroup at the facility
• Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
• Will be required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency

Quality

• Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
• Perform quality checks as outlined in the process procedures for the machine, and minor maintenance when necessary
• Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
• Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide all daily quality activities

Safety

• Working safely is a condition of employment
• Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
• Follow all safety procedures and rules
• Properly wear all required PPE
• Review and know all Job Hazard Analyses for proper job sequence and hazards associated with the jobs assigned
• Review and know all Safety Data Sheets for the jobs assigned
• Maintain all work areas to 5S standards
• Perform pre‑operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
• Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle materials in a manner designed to minimize environmental impact

Physical/Environmental Demands

Must be able to work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate‑control. Physical activity includes balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking, and sitting.
