Job summary

A leading asphalt company in North Carolina is seeking an operator to manage screed operations. The successful candidate will monitor the screed’s performance, make necessary adjustments for depth and grade, and ensure the equipment is maintained and cleaned. Candidates must comply with safety protocols and may need to work extended shifts. Experience operating similar equipment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor the screed operation and notify the foreman of any issues.
• Set and adjust the screed for the correct depth and grade.
• Assist in cleaning and maintaining the screed at the end of the day.
• Assist in cleaning and maintenance of the screed at day end; keep equipment clean and orderly.
• Be available to work nights and extended shifts when required by the project.
• Follow all safety rules and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Monitor the operation and function of the screed throughout the workday, maintain an awareness of unusual noises on the paver or operation of the screed. Operator must bring any exceptions to the attention of the foreman.

The ability to set the screed on the asphalt paver at the beginning of each operation; adjust the screed according to the asphalt lay down specification in order to receive correct depth and to make correct grade and finished cross-section.

The ability to operate the screed in a manner to assure the safety of personnel around and on the equipment.

Assist in the cleaning and maintenance to screed at the end of the day. Equipment must be clean and kept in an orderly condition.

Operator must have the ability to work nights and extended shifts when the project dictates.

All safety rules are to be followed.

Operator is expected to perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE

Must be able to comply with instructions and direction. Operator must be able to read and use fixed gauges, rulers, and other adjustable measuring instruments where some interpretation is required.

EXPERIENCE

Over three months and up to one year to become familiar with the operation of the screed and equipment to obtain desired results.
