Job summary

PTMW, Inc is seeking a competent welder to operate a Robotic Weld Machine. The Robotic Welder Operator will program and run robotic welding tasks, set up jobs, and ensure output meets quality standards.

Candidates should be able to read blueprints, use hand tools, and monitor welds with attention to safety and efficiency. The role requires familiarity with robotic welding processes, ability to interpret specifications, and collaboration with the Robotic Team Guide to address production issues.

Qualifications

  • One-year weld experience or equivalent education and experience.
  • Multiple general welding certifications and/or a certificate in robotic welding.
  • Certified in or able to pass a welding test (D1.1/FCAW).
  • Ability to pass internal QA tests for welded materials.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints and use hand tools to weld products.
  • Operate and program the Robotic Weld machine with approved software.
  • Monitor machine operation and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Adjust machine controls if programming is faulty or if a malfunction occurs.
  • Collaborate with management and team guide to resolve production issues and obtain approvals.
  • Handle rework to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Load/unload materials using overhead crane as required.
  • Clean machines after each shift and perform manual welds if needed.
  • Inspect welded surfaces to evaluate quality and compliance with specs.

Job Details

PTMW, Inc is seeking a competent and results oriented welder to operate our Robotic Weld Machine. The Robotic Welder Operator is responsible for soft programming and operating the robot to complete a variety of welding tasks. This will include setting up the robot for a specific welding job; selecting the correct program to achieve the shop order demands and monitoring the robot to ensure that it is working properly. You need to clean the work area before and after work completion. Operators will need to always adhere to the safety guidelines. As a robotic operator, you should ensure that the outcome matches the quality and industry standards. In addition to this, you should be detail-oriented and have good problem‑solving abilities. Your ability to meet deadlines and work in a schedule‑based environment will be advantageous.

Essential Job Duties
  • Read and interpret blueprints, have basic mechanical knowledge and use of hand tools, following instructions, and welding products.
  • Apply competencies in welding and utilize computer‑based software to operate the Robotic Weld machine.
  • Monitor machine operation and control panel display and compare readings to specifications to detect malfunctions.
  • Adjust machine controls when automatic programming is faulty or if the machine malfunctions.
  • Confer with management and Robotic Team Guide to resolve machine malfunctions and production errors, and/or to obtain approval to continue production.
  • The employee is responsible for any rework or corrections as necessary to ensure a product meets specifications.
  • Load and unload material by overhead crane depending on weight and size.
  • Clean machines after every shift.
  • Perform manual welding during robot weld cycle, if required.
  • Observe tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and performance to specifications.
  • Remove rough spots from workpiece, using portable grinder, die grinder, or scraper.
  • Use templates and other work aids to hold and align parts to ensure quality and consistency of parts produced.
  • Other duties as assigned or appropriate.
Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • One‑year related weld experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Multiple general welding certifications and/or a certificate in a specialty such as robotic welding.
  • Certified in or ability to pass a welding test; D1.1/FCAW.
  • Ability to pass Quality Assurances internal test requirements for mile steel and galvanized welding.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or PTMW, Inc. employees.
  • Ability to clearly define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret tape measure and blueprints.
