POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of this position is to operate a paver machine that spreads and levels hot‑mix bituminous paving material (asphalt) onto sub‑grade of streets, highways and parking areas.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Utilize pedals, levers and steering wheel to control direction and speed of machine and maneuver into operating position
• Communicate via hand movements with Dump Truck Drivers for proper operation; control pushing of preceding Dump Truck to maintain flow of asphalt into hopper and thickness of asphalt installation
• Use of levers and switches to control burners, screed width, etc.
• Performs pre-starting check of fluids (oil, coolant, etc.) and inspection for damage
• May be required to perform other labor/operator related tasks (based on experience, abilities, knowledge of incumbent and direction of Foreman) as necessary in assisting crew with job completion

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of tools, materials, methods and techniques for installing asphalt
• Applicable dexterity, depth‑perception and hand‑eye coordination a must
• Three years’ paving experience, including previous equipment operating experience
• Knowledge of paving equipment, safety requirements, and processes
• Must have a “Can do” mindset
• Ability to work in a team setting
• Ability to work extended hours and days with no interruption

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by the Paver Operator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

• Work is performed in an outdoor setting. Must be able to function in the following environments: inclement weather, heat, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
• You must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
• Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
• Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
• Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
• Standing, walking, bending, climbing and stretching are required outside in the weather for extended periods during the shift.
• The ability to sit for 6-8 hours per day in 2–3‑hour intervals.
• Manual dexterity to handle tools and the ability to move 50 pounds are regularly required to perform routine functions.
• Regular and peripheral vision sufficient to safely operate equipment in an active work area and perform job functions as described above.
• Hearing must be sufficient to safely operate equipment in an active work area.
