Duties and Responsibilities

• Excavate, move, and grade earth using a hydraulic excavator or another piece of heavy machinery that runs on tracks.
• Responsible for operating the backhoe equipment to excavate ditches and structures, lay pipe and precast concrete structures, carry material in the loader bucket, and general excavation and backfill work.
• Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
• Maintain the truck in good working condition.
• Perform routine maintenance on the truck, such as oil changes and tire rotations.
• Report any mechanical issues to the supervisor.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic understanding of English to read and understand work instructions and safety information.
• Must be able to follow directions.
• Ability to meet physical demands of the job which include, but are not limited to: walking, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, sitting, squatting, and occasionally lifting and carrying items which may weigh up to 25 pounds.
• Position spends approximately 5% of time outside inspecting and maintaining the equipment, which may involve standing, squatting, bending, lying, or in various other positions to reach the machine. Position spends approximately 95% of the time sitting and operating the equipment.
• Vision and hearing must be within or correctable to within normal range.
• Must be available for work 5am – 6pm Monday through Saturdays.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to machines and chemicals at various times. The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
