Job summary

GFL Environmental Services is hiring a CDL B driver in Kalamazoo, Michigan to transport, load, unload hazardous wastes, and manage related paperwork. The role requires operating vacuum/box trucks, adhering to safety regulations, and communicating effectively with customers and teammates.

Candidates should have a valid CDL B with clean record, be able to drive manual transmissions, and be prepared for overtime and weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Tanker endorsement required and hazmat endorsement preferred.
• Must be able to drive manual transmissions.
• Overtime and weekend work may be required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation and safe practices.
• Loading and unloading of trucks.
• Familiarity with government documents such as manifests.
• Perform trip inspections on equipment and loads.
• Maneuver trucks into loading/unloading positions with guidance from loading crew.
• Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook and bills of lading.

Summary

This driver will transport, remove, deliver, and collect various liquid and solid hazardous wastes from various customer sites. Will be required to load and unload trucks. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee cargo handling and secure loads, including equipment preparation, application of safe practices, compliance with applicable Acts and regulations.
• Loading and unloading of trucks.
• Familiarity and experience working with government documents such as manifests.
• Perform trip inspections on equipment operated and load, ensuring safety and roadworthiness.
• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
• Check all load-related documentation to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
• Record and maintain required documentation including driver logbook, bills of lading, manifests etc. by manual or electronic means.
• Communicate effectively with the public, customers, and co-workers both verbally and in written form.
• Train others when required.
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

• Valid CDL B license with clean driving record.

• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine vehicle maintenance.

• Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 75 lbs required.
