Job summary

Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, in Waskom, TX is seeking Machine Operators/Machinists/Qualifiers to aid in the production of wheel sets. Trainee/Operator will assist in bearing demount, wheel demount, gear case washing, wheel set washing and miscellaneous parts washing. Machinist experience is a plus.

Lathe operators: CNC, Heg, tread lathe operators. The role requires precise measurement with micrometers, strict adherence to procedures, safe crane operation, and accurate production

Qualifications

• Read micrometers and work to tight tolerances.
• Must read and write English and complete production reports.
• Must be quality oriented and a team player.
• Flexibility in shift and schedule; good attendance.

Responsibilities

• Read micrometers and inspect wheelsets.

Key Job Elements

• Using measuring devices (i.e. gages, calipers);
• Follow all work procedures and maintain accurate documentation accordingly;

• Magnetic Particle Testing as necessary to ensure all wheels and axles meet all AAR Rules and requirements;
• Complete required paperwork legibly and correctly;
• Operate overhead cranes;

Education / Training

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Qualifications And Experience

• Ability to read micrometers and work to tight tolerances;
• Ability to multitask and work with minimal supervision;
• Must be able to read and write English legibly and complete production reports with accuracy;
• Must be quality oriented and a team player;
• Strong attention to detail;
• Computer skills and excellent organizational skills;
• Flexibility in shift and schedule and good attendance record.
