The City of Appleton is currently accepting applications for a vacancy in the Water Division of Public Works. Applicants should have experience reading and maintaining City water meters, as well as installing and repairing water mains and services. Work involves locating, installing, and repairing leaks in water mains and services, repairing, testing, and raising hydrants, and inspecting and repairing valve and curb boxes. It also involves reading, installing, and testing meters, turning water on and off at designated sites, and replacing damaged meters.
Employees must live within a twenty-five-mile radius or reasonably respond to emergencies within thirty minutes. A commercial driver’s license with air brakes and trailer endorsements, along with a good driving record, are required. Hours are Monday-Thursday 2:00PM-11:00PM, and 2:00PM-6:00PM Friday. Requires experience in water main and service repair and installation, with training beyond high school in pipe laying and plumbing or equivalent experience. Knowledge of pipe laying, plumbing, water systems, codes, and regulations is essential. Ability to operate vehicles and equipment, read maps, and use GIS and Microsoft applications is required. Must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions and obtain Wisconsin DNR D-1 certification within 12 months of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class A CDL with N endorsement.
