As a Wastewater Operator II, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted. Based in Brownstown, MI, you’ll have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including maintenance of equipment and quality control testing, report compilation, recordkeeping, and adhere to compliance with policies and procedures. You’ll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to complex challenges that may arise in municipal facilities. You’ll diagnose operating problems, monitor and control adjustments and determine proper rates in the treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent. You’ll also collect samples, maintain shift logs and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you’lltake actionto ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team.
Essential Functions
- Diagnoses operating problems; directs and performs necessary corrective action during work shift
- Reads gauges and meters
- Starts and stops equipment
- Operates valves to route and control flow
- Make process control adjustments
- Determines and sets proper chemical dosage and flow rates
- Operates PLCs and SCADA systems
- Complies and reports non-compliance with OMI and Project Policies and Procedures
- Prepares required reports and maintains complete record keeping procedures
- Collects samples and performs routine laboratory tests and analyses on industrial discharges, plant influent, process, effluent and biosolids
- Processes, hauls, and apply biosolids in accordance with plant schedules and regulatory requirements
- Make entries in plant logs
- Makes operating decisions in the absence of supervisory personnel
- Maintains discipline and ensures proper procedures are followed
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during work
- Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site or off-site locations is required
- This position required to be available on an on-call basis for emergencies
- Travel between work locations is required

Here's what you'll need
- Possess a valid State of Michigan Class C Wastewater certification
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate
- Three to Five years of experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants minimum
- A valid driver’s license with no major infractions
Ideally, You’ll Also Have
- Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of bacteriological and chemical sewage analyses; effects and problems of industrial waste in water/wastewater treatment processes; safe work practices
- Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC’s and SCADA systems
- Associate’s degree in chemistry, Biology, or another related field
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.

The base salary range for this position is $52,200.00 to $67,900.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
