Scotts Miracle-Gro in Channahon, Illinois, is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to support our mulch and soil manufacturing operations.

You will operate trucks, front‑end loaders, dozers and other equipment safely, prepare organic mixes, monitor stockpiles, and help maintain equipment. This role follows a step pay progression and pays weekly, with benefits and growth opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Experience operating medium or heavy equipment.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in dusty environments.
• Capable of working in heat, cold, and all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment safely, including trucks, loaders, dozers and graders.
• Prepare organic mixes using a loader and move piles to segregate materials.
• Supply production with a continuous material flow.
• Monitor stock piles, turn piles and manage water for production readiness.
• Clean, maintain and secure equipment per management policy.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

This hourly role follows the Scotts/Hawthorne step pay progression scale and typically starts at $24.50 per hour and is paid weekly. Job Title

Heavy Equipment Operator – Channahon, IL (mulch and soil manufacturing facility)

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner, including trucks, front‑end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, snowblowers and other pieces of equipment.
• Prepare organic mixes using a heavy equipment loader; push or relocate piles to ensure segregation of materials.
• Supply production with a continuous supply of material.
• Monitor the stock piles for excessive heat, turn stockpiles, extinguish small fires and ensure the proper amount of water is used to prepare the stockpile for production use.
• Clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by management and company policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• One or more years of experience using medium and/or heavy equipment.
• Ability to work in a dusty, dirty environment and in all weather elements, including heat and cold.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb in and out of equipment, and sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to safely operate heavy equipment.
