Job summary

Zachry is seeking an Industrial Heavy Equipment Operator in Port Sulphur, LA to operate a range of earthmoving machines and ensure safety on site. You will perform equipment inspections, assist with repairs when needed, and support other crafts during downtime.

Qualified candidates will have 2+ years of dirt equipment experience, a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a commitment to safety and procedural standards on a heavy construction site.

• An Industrial Heavy Equipment Operator will operate one or more of the following construction equipment such as a CAT 140M Blade w/GPS, JD 750k Dozer W/GPS, and a CAT 349 Track hoe, 740 Trucks to move earth.
• They will also be responsible for safety, equipment inspections, and possibly assisting with repairs.
• The position will be expected to assist other crafts in their downtimes, which may include non-operating activities.

Position Responsibilities

• Will operate various construction equipment to move earth in a precision process.
• Will inspect equipment.
• Will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.
• May follow signal directions from a signaler in equipment operations.
• Will access area of operations for safety issues and required processes and planning of equipment operations.
• Will assist in other job site related tasks as assigned while not operating.

Required Qualifications

• Must have experience and knowledge of operating varies construction equipment including but not limited to bobcats, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, backhoes, rollers, and graders.
• Must have basic mechanical knowledge and illustrate the abilities to inspect equipment.
• Must have knowledge of and be familiar with soil types.
• Must illustrate knowledge of excavating and the specifications that are required for a given excavation.
• Must be able to follow instructions correctly.
• Must be reliable, accountable, and consistent in performing administrative processes such as but not limited to equipment inspection paperwork.
• Must be willing and able to follow all instructed safety regulations.
• Must be able to make it work on time and work the designated schedule and any overtime as needed with the proper notification.

Preferred Additional Qualification

• Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
• Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
• Valid Driver’s License.

Reporting to

This position does not have any direct reports.

Physical Requirements

• Employees will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
• Will talk and hear to communicate.
• Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
• May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
• Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
• Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
