Job summary

Job Description
Job Overview

Cabler 1 Operator is a medium‑skilled role responsible for safe and efficient operations of the machine, including loading/unloading reels, making hook splices, reading and interpreting production orders, selecting, identifying and installing tooling to meet production order specifications, adjusting lay length and binder tightness, loading binder, loading fillers and operating longitudinal taping head. Examples of machines operated: Drum Twister (Heflin and SCUPP), Cabling and Shielding Machines, Bunchers or Twisters (VRP).

General Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish is a plus
  • Must be able to stand and lift heavy loads for long periods of time
Primary Job Tasks
  • Work under supervision and maintain ongoing communication with supervisor and peers through verbal instruction and reports
  • Complete production orders to customer specifications or other requirements, producing a quality product that can be delivered on time
  • Inspect machines and verify operation quality
  • Place scrap into designated scrap bins
  • Handle any other job duties as assigned
Cross Training
  • Required to cross‑train equipment within your identified workgroup at your facility
  • Once trained in more complex jobs, may be required to fill the position in the event of absence or vacancy
  • Required to rotate on a set frequency within your workgroup to maintain skill proficiency
Quality
  • Use the company’s ISO Quality System documentation to guide all daily quality activities
  • Maintain general housekeeping, use the shop floor correctly and comply with legislative regulations
  • Conduct quality checks on products being run and inspect products compared to production order
  • Do not release products until all quality checks have been passed
  • Immediately report quality issues to the supervisor or quality manager
Safety
  • Work safely as a condition of employment
  • Observe Southwire safety rules and maintain good housekeeping
  • Follow all safety procedures and rules, properly wear all required PPE
  • Review and know all Job Hazard Analyses and Safety Data Sheets for the assigned job
  • Maintain all work areas to 5S standards
  • Perform pre‑operation safety inspection and hazard analysis
  • Follow all company environmental rules/procedures and handle materials to minimize environmental impact
Physical/Environmental Demands
  • Perform daily physical activities: balance, climbing, fingering, grasping, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, standing, stooping, walking and sitting
  • Work in hot and cold environments normally found in a prefabricated building without climate control
