Fiber Materials Inc. | Engineered textile products for aerospace and defense

FMI's Rhode Island facility specializes in textile engineering and manufacturing of 2D woven fabrics, 3D woven preforms, braided materials, and resin transfer molded composites. We work with the strongest, lightest fibers in the world, including carbon, glass, aramid (Kevlar), and ceramic.

Our products are used in groundbreaking space initiatives such as NASA's Mars Sample Return mission, key missile programs, airfoils in commercial and military jet engines, and lightweight armor for US military ground vehicles.

Your Role:

FMI's Rhode Island Facility is looking to hire an Operator for our growing Woonsocket, RI location. The Operator supports various aspects of our composite manufacturing process, including winding, twisting, spinning, gilling, and stretch breaking. The role involves participating in process improvement projects to enhance quality, cost, and schedule, along with performing other duties as assigned and cross-training in different work centers and skill sets.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Wind spools
  2. Creel and lace equipment such as spinning frames and looms
  3. Creel and lace a twisting machine
  4. Operate equipment related to stretch breaking
  5. Maintain defect logs
  6. Measure and record critical parameters with calibrated instruments
  7. Inspect and document parts for compliance with work instructions
  8. Prepare units for next production phase or shipment

  • Ability to read, write, and follow written instructions
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills with tools
  • Strong math skills
Preferred:
  • Experience with high-end fibers such as carbon, glass, and ceramic
